MEPS SECTION 3.3
The BYU Rocketry Association’s leadership positions are opportunities for dedicated members of the association to apply themselves. The positions described in Table 1 are determined through an election which is generally held annually at the end of each Winter semester.
Candidates will be asked to give a short speech on why they should be chosen and how they will benefit the club. Those attending the election meeting will then be asked to vote on paper ballots which will be collected and counted.

President | The President delegates responsibility, manages the association, coordinates with other association leaders, and oversees the High-Power Team as its customer/project manager. Treasurer | The Treasurer manages association funds and predicts future funding needs. The Treasurer also takes the lead in seeking external funding for the High-Power Team and local funding for the association. | N/A | 3+ |
Secretary | The Secretary manages association information and communication. They also take notes during administrative meetings. | N/A | 4+ |
Outreach & Recruiting Coordinators (2) | The outreach and recruiting coordinator plans and discusses association involvement in career events and other networking activities. They also lead the distribution of association advertisements, seek new recruiting methods, and take initiative in assisting new prospective members. | N/A | 5+ |
Equipment & Lab Manager | The Equipment and Lab Manager maintains and contributes to the association lab space organization, efficiency, and functionality while preventing association equipment breakdown. They also alert the leadership to necessary general equipment purchases. | N/A | 3+ |
Safety Officer | The Safety Officer reviews safety procedures with members and oversees lab safety by posting warnings and checking that the lab has proper personal protective equipment. The safety officer also reviews lab safety with members when necessary and presents a launch protocol demonstration prior to association launches. | N/A | .5 |
Social Media & Website Manager | The Social Media and Website Manager is tasked with the posting of content along all social media platforms (Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, YouTube) as well as the maintaining of the association's website. | N/A | 5+ |
AIAA Representative | The AIAA Representative helps the AIAA chapter at BYU. They coordinate with the other branches of BYU’s AIAA chapter, such as the BYU Aeronautics Association and the BYU Drone Team, while inviting guest speakers to campus. | Member of AIAA | 2 |
The positions described in Table 2 are open by application only. These positions require a high standard of excellence in technical and leadership abilities. Applicants should understand the time requirements of each of these positions and be prepared to work more hours than required if the situation calls for it. Application dates for these positions can be seen in Table 3.

High-Power Team Lead | The High-Power Team Lead directs the BYU Rocketry High-Power Team. They are in charge of any requirements the team must meet for the Spaceport America Cup. | Must have high-power rocketry experience including 1 year of JHPT/HPT team experience. Junior High-Power Team Lead | The Junior High Power Team Lead directs the Junior High-Power Team, working with 8 experienced association members. | The lead must have high-power rocketry experience. | 5+ |
Student/Advanced Launch Competition Coordinator | The coordinator runs BYU’s annual rocketry Student Launch Competition or Advanced Launch Competition. They lead advertising for these competitions and recruit other coordinators as needed. The coordinator leads all software, design, and build training, while also holding design reviews for participants. During the Winter semester, the coordinator leads students attempting HPR certifications. | They must either have experience in the launch competitions as a participant or a coordinator. | 8-10 |
Manufacturing and Engineering Processes Team Lead | The Manufacturing Engineering Processes Team Lead directs the Manufacturing Engineering Processes Team to ensure that manufacturing processes used by the association are up to date with current research and are documented so that all members can learn them. | The lead must have experience with manufacturing, design, and high-power rocketry. | 4-6 |
Alka-Seltzer Team Lead | The lead directs the Alka-Seltzer team in the annual Alka-Seltzer competition. | Experience in high power rocketry. | 8-10 |
